You hit it on the nail! Agree also with Patekova that Patek should have kept it at a 3 and the model would remain for posterity . That would be more fitting tribute

Patek Philippe 1938p-001 Minute Repeater Alarm

 By: Miranda : November 10th, 2023-09:46
Minute Repeater Alarm Reference 1938P-001 Patek Philippe launches a limited edition with an exclusive new movement in tribute to Philippe Stern To celebrate the 85th birthday of Philippe Stern, president of the manufacture from 1993 to 2009 and current ho...

With you on that - stunning watch. Would much prefer portrait free dial & engraving on caseback

 By: jml_watches : November 10th, 2023-10:23
The good thing is that it's way out of my budget & even if it wasn't it's so unobtainable to be completely moot. I'll just enjoy the fact that they made it. Cheers JML

same for me, oops...

I had exactly the same thought immediately

 By: tempus : November 10th, 2023-11:26
Reminds of the movie poster “Godfather”. What a great watch, but an engraving on the back solely would have been perfect. It’s a pity…but comes from a son who loves and adores his great father. Mr Philippe Stern is a real gentleman. I had the pleasure to ...

LOL!

Thinking of it a bit more,

 By: VintageCollector : November 12th, 2023-09:10
Lenin would actually make some weird sense though, as he had quite a history with Geneva, as he lived there a few years before going full retard massmurderer in Russia.

:-)))

 By: Centurionone : November 11th, 2023-15:59

It was hard to resist. ;)

 By: amanico : November 11th, 2023-19:58

..and spot on mon ami !

 By: Centurionone : November 12th, 2023-08:10
It’s such an odd decision on PP’s behalf

Merci!

 By: amanico : November 12th, 2023-11:32

De rien ❤️

 By: Centurionone : November 12th, 2023-13:13

Same for me.

 By: nafetS : November 10th, 2023-11:02
This is something I could see as a memorial piece to commemorate someone who passed away. Doing it with the face of someone who's still living is just off in my opinion.

Absolutely.

 By: amanico : November 10th, 2023-14:21

:)

 By: amanico : November 10th, 2023-14:21

Easy fix...

 By: mdg : November 10th, 2023-17:54
...sell the 30 with the profile at $1M apiece. Then do a 'regular' version at a mere $750k. Win-win : )

Glad you say this dear Nicolas as that was my thought when I viewed the release information earlier. As I´m not a frequent of this PP forum I was hesitant to write my own thoughts on this dial here.

 By: Subexplorer : November 10th, 2023-19:50
It is a marvelous timepiece both visualy and its mechanic characteristics is fantastic. A dial in black mail with those Breguet numerals is superb... but the face... mmm. May be they could do it inside the caseback with that nice inscription. Interesting ...

Mi placer, amigo Abel.

+ 1

 By: Centurionone : November 11th, 2023-15:59

That is quite the tribute piece.

 By: ArmisT : November 10th, 2023-10:02
Thank you for this detailed and extensive post. So many technical and aesthetic aspects to almost swoon over. But I do wonder if they considered putting the portrait on the back instead of the dial. Nonetheless, it is tastefully incorporated. Kudos to Thi...

What a beautiful and amazing watch although I agree that the face is a mistake.

 By: kev09 : November 10th, 2023-11:30
The description was certainly an interesting read. I expect the price will be just out of my budget so I’ll wait for the Swatch edition. Regards Kev.

ChF 890,000 all sold

 By: Miranda : November 10th, 2023-12:41

Wow, that was fast.

 By: ArmisT : November 10th, 2023-13:19

Crisis? What crisis? :)))

Chosen to be allowed to spend😉

Woww and yucks

 By: yming : November 10th, 2023-12:18
Beautiful case and movement.. but the dial 🥴 His signature on the rotor is more than enough

Simple incredible watch

 By: TeutonicCarFan : November 10th, 2023-13:17
Too bad this face ruins the dial. I'm sure all 30 will sit in safes somewhere so not a big deal. But you'd be walking around and people would ask who is on your watch, is that a parent, relative?? Oh no it's the president of patek for 16 years 🤣 I think i...

What an extraordinary watch and what a big mistake to have the portrait on the dial and to have it be limited edition of 30 pieces. Here’s what makes sense to me …

 By: patekova : November 10th, 2023-13:40
1) Keep the watch exactly as is including the portrait in a limited edition of 3 pieces. One hour Philippe, one for Thierry and one for Museum. This would in no way diminish the loving tribute from Thierry to his Dad. In fact it would make it more special...

Agreed 100%!

 By: sham1 : November 10th, 2023-15:34

😊

 By: patekova : November 10th, 2023-17:23

+++1 on all counts.

 By: amanico : November 10th, 2023-17:24

Thank you!

 By: patekova : November 10th, 2023-17:51

Charming watch, uncharming motif..

 By: greatpa : November 10th, 2023-14:12
.. His face's presence and attitude belongs elsewhere. A big NO from here.

These photos are phenomenal, but...

 By: mdg : November 10th, 2023-17:56
...does the movement look a bit small for the case? Maybe they had to go with 41mm to keep the proportions correct (it looks a bit thick).

Amazing movement and complication!

 By: patrick_y : November 10th, 2023-18:27
Super complicated! I can't wait to talk to the movement team leader about the challenges of this movement! Just amazing!

Was this the intended ONLYWATCH?

 By: pfang56 : November 10th, 2023-20:10
Interesting that they made the ONLYWATCH to make 30 pieces. Incredible movement, finishing, and story. But I think it's odd, if true, that they made the ONLYWATCH into a 30 piece edition. Have other companies followed suit? Peter

To me it looks more like Mr Stern got his persanel Patek and the other 29 pay for it.

By: COUNT DE MONET : November 10th, 2023-20:11
However, those 29 get a "gift", too.

1. Kudos to anyone who read that entire press release!

 By: Brandon Skinner : November 10th, 2023-22:43
2. First watch I can think that should be sent to Bamford for a dial upgrade!

ROFL!!!

 By: amanico : November 10th, 2023-22:55

This watch is disgusting

 By: Cozmopak : November 11th, 2023-02:27

The good new is, we now have a sample of his signature on the rotor...

 By: mdg : November 11th, 2023-04:09
...I can see myself writing the letter now: Dear factory, Please sell mdg any watch that he wants at cost. And put him at the top of every list. He's a good guy and deserves it. Thank you, Philippe Stern Signature

This watch will be forgotten very quickly.

 By: fmc000 : November 11th, 2023-14:14
Questionable dial, only 30 pieces all sold in the first day (hours), movement never to be repeated, watch very unlikely auctioned in the next years... A missed opportunity for PP and Mr. Thierry Stern IMHO. Such a shame that this great movement will never...

Many thanks for this informative post !

 By: GLau : November 13th, 2023-17:06
The complications are simply amazing !

My sense is that . . .

 By: Dr No : November 16th, 2023-19:38
. . . given his age Philippe may not be in the best of health. The reference could be a timely tribute from son to father. Art
