The WS for the 17th of September - ‘Coloring outside the lines’ - is live

Sep 17, 2021,14:15 PM

As posted yesterday the theme of this week’s WS is ‘Coloring outside the lines’. So basically watches that don’t really make a classic of your collection or otherwise if your collection is very different from the norm… Surprising uses, unusual locations, etc. all qualify 😊

Looking forward to your unusual entries and wishing you a great weekend ahead!

Here are some of mine…

Large, where most of my watches are small…

Quartz, where most are mechanical…

I guess the outside the lines here is clear… 😂

Bracelet, where most are strap attached 😊

With excellent legibility…

Nice theme

I gave it some thought, and went through my pictures to find this picture, taken last year in Canberra. Some pink cherry blossoms blooming then, which brightened the landscape. This piece is the only piece I have with an unusual complication (deadbeat sec...

This is a most unusual and yet very fantastic piece 👌🏻

 By: KMII : September 17th, 2021-15:08
Was very positively surprised when they launched it and it’s one of my favorite complications 👍🏻

Thanks KMII

 By: Cookies : September 18th, 2021-15:31
Wish I came more prepared for this theme. If I could conjure up any watch into my collection to feature into this weeks post, i would likely post the following: 1) A meistersinger 1-handed piece 2) A jump hour piece .E.g Mickey Mouse Genta biretro Tokyo d...

Both unusual and interesting …

Thanks Cap’N

 By: Cookies : September 18th, 2021-15:32

 By: Subexplorer : September 17th, 2021-15:24
… that I’m sure will bring many awesome entries along the weekend. I will come back later today with some pieces that “color outside the lines” of my collection. Best cordial regards Abel

Excellent Abel!

Great theme

 By: Arronax : September 17th, 2021-17:46
I'm sure we are going to see some amazing stuff! I am very much a dive watch person through and through with flyback chronographs a distant second but this one is the most left field for me: ...

This is a pretty funky piece indeed!

 By: KMII : September 18th, 2021-04:26
Pocket watches are a cool touch generally and nowadays very much outside the lines and this Seiko is a spectacular demonstration of that 👏🏻👌🏻🙌🏻

Good to see a pocket watch on WristScan …

 By: Cpt Scarlet : September 18th, 2021-15:02
and a perfect choice for the theme.

Nice! Love the dial.

On ocasions i sinn and test out the smart side

 By: Tegis : September 17th, 2021-18:16
Does its job good so far when i need it but not much soul in there. ...

That’s an interesting outside the lines I didn’t think about!

 By: KMII : September 18th, 2021-04:28
And very much reality nowadays. The only reason I have not engaged so far is probably the disposable nature of the product, which bothers me 🧐😊

The outsider in your collection …

 By: Cpt Scarlet : September 18th, 2021-15:03
but very practical and unusual.

The weird zone…. Have a nice day 🙂

 By: Stoikos : September 17th, 2021-19:21
Black glossy leather strap? Then it’s a dress watch. My father’s 1983 Omega Gold DeVille Ultrathin. 32 mm. My old motorcycle boot. My most comfortable and frequently worn footwear. ...

These are all very cool combinations!

 By: KMII : September 18th, 2021-04:29
Especially enjoy the 21st century officer look of the last shot 👌🏻👍🏻

Thanks, KM!

Hello dear KM! Here some shots to answer your Theme.

 By: Subexplorer : September 18th, 2021-00:56
Though about 90 percent of my watches have a manual or automatic mechanic movement inside I own a few quartz watches which can be considered as timepieces which color outside the lines of my collection. And I must recognize that in spite my preference for...

These are wonderful pieces indeed!

 By: KMII : September 18th, 2021-04:33
And your statements made me remember the times when one could actually walk into a watch shop and walk out with a watch 😂 The Timex also adds a wonderful dash of color!

Thank you so much dear KM for your kind comments. Agree with you about walking into a watch shop and being able to get what you were looking for. It´s amusing to think that those...

 By: Subexplorer : September 18th, 2021-13:36
... "normal times" were just a few years ago and how -and why- everything changed so much and in such a crazy way. Let´s enjoy what we already own and what still is possible to buy! Lol! Have a nice weekend my dear friend. Abel

Could not agree more 👍🏻👏🏻

 By: KMII : September 18th, 2021-14:21
That’s one reason why I also enjoy independents, where demand is not being gamed 😊👍🏻

New old stock ! …

 By: Cpt Scarlet : September 18th, 2021-15:09
That’s a cool Rolex dear Abel ! The Citizen Aqualand reminds me so much of many enjoyable diving trips over the years and friends that I meet diving. For many years it was “The” divers choice. The watch I can’t see is your X-33, I assume it’s outside the ...

Hello dear Captain! Thanks a lot for your kind comments!

 By: Subexplorer : September 18th, 2021-23:42
Yes, the second Rolex quartz was a lucky find a few years ago. I was talking with a friend owner od an AD when I mentioned my fondness for these watches and he said: oh! You like them? I have the last one in my vault for yesrs without selling. Is it possi...

I love the story about the Rolex ! ..,

 By: Cpt Scarlet : September 19th, 2021-11:21
It could only happen to you … LOL !! Good to see your X-33, a real “tool watch” for the modern world.

Beautiful vintage Rolex Abel and oh that times is so sweet!

Love the Playboy watch, and the UG.

 By: Ruffian : September 18th, 2021-01:18
Here's a vintage Longines stop seconds. Just an unusual complication. Colouring outside the lines - these beautiful cartoons by Liz Climo (formerly cartoonist for the Simpsons) really make my day. She doesn't colour outside the lines though! ...

What a post 👏🏻👏🏻👌🏻

 By: KMII : September 18th, 2021-04:36
The watch is lovely but the combination with the cartoons is superb 🙌🏻👌🏻

Thanks! Hagwe!

 By: Ruffian : September 18th, 2021-11:28

That’s a lot of fun …

 By: Cpt Scarlet : September 18th, 2021-15:13

Amazing

 By: Cookies : September 18th, 2021-02:40
I like the Patek regulator because of the dial.

Different ways of displaying time indeed!

 By: KMII : September 18th, 2021-04:38
And all three very nice! Possibly one of my favorite modern Pateks, simply due to being fresh in its design 👌🏻👍🏻

Good shots terbaboom ! …

 By: Cpt Scarlet : September 18th, 2021-15:14
I particularly like the shots of you regulator watch.

thanks, Captain!

I like the Milus

 By: brauner : September 18th, 2021-16:42

yeah... i still enjoy staring at its second hands passing the "relay" every 20s

 By: terbaboom : September 19th, 2021-01:39
but they don't make such watches anymore 😔

This colorful watch of mine is a good match for this week’s theme :)

 By: Sfwatchlover : September 18th, 2021-07:05

The Louis Erard x Alain Silberstein ..

 By: Cpt Scarlet : September 18th, 2021-15:16

Thanks for your kind words dear Captain

 By: Watchonthewrists : September 18th, 2021-20:17

I think I will pick these 2 amongst my collection

 By: jrwong23 (aka watchthebin) : September 18th, 2021-10:57
The most unconventional and fun watch and also the thickest in my collection I normally dislike such thickness or quirkiness to such an extreme but I love this MAD 1 ! And then the thinnest watch I have at 3.85mm thin with a very well finished and enterta...

These really are two extreme ends of the spectrum 👌🏻

 By: KMII : September 18th, 2021-14:25
And both supremely cool at that! With my general preference for thinness, I guess the Piaget just edges it for me 🙌🏻👌🏻👏🏻

The Piaget is super under appreciated

 By: jrwong23 (aka watchthebin) : September 19th, 2021-13:32
Glad you like it buddy. Read you are feeling under the weather. Hope you feel better soon

Well played Robin

Glad you like these

Ah, that one has a fully rotatable case…

 By: KMII : September 18th, 2021-14:24
So the pushers can be in a bullhead position, too, when you use it as a stopwatch 👍🏻😊

Great theme dear KMII!

 By: S F : September 18th, 2021-13:15
I will join with a couple. Have a good weekend! ...

Two perfect demonstrations of the concept…

 By: KMII : September 18th, 2021-14:23
Coming from opposite sides of the spectrum - would equally appreciate either 👍🏻🙌🏻👌🏻

Thks dear KMII!

Great theme

 By: Weems@8 : September 18th, 2021-14:39
Cool to see other members have the same situation. All mechanical watches, and a few quartz watches. I have this paradox. Feeling good wear my quartz watch. Albeit if i have the chance to wear one of my automatics, i quickly put on the delicate and sensit...

Good to see this Longines …

 By: Cpt Scarlet : September 18th, 2021-15:23
I don’t think we have ever seen one on WristScan before. Outside the lines of the usual watches on WristScan, so that should definitely fit the theme .

I can well understand your hunger for your beautiful quartz Longines Weems! The set off function to save battery is a very interesting feature. Similar to that in my X-33 I guess.

 By: Subexplorer : September 18th, 2021-23:57
Some watches develop an special attraction to us, regardless they are mechanical or quartz. I feel you don´t need to think in giving it away to a family member. Just keep enjoying it so much yourself. Hagwe! Abel PS: Thanks a lot for your kind comments on...

Odd one

 By: hans_jorgen_1968 : September 18th, 2021-14:44
The most Odd watch I own is this one Quartz, the only one I own.. LCD Display.. the only one.. From 1980’s … the closest contender is a Omega Dynamic from 1972… … not 💯 correct.. I have a watch newer than that but with manual wound Junghans movement from ...

That’s an interesting choice Hans …!

 By: Cpt Scarlet : September 18th, 2021-15:25
And another watch that I don’t think we have seen on WristScan. Have a great weekend.

Outside the lines …

 By: Cpt Scarlet : September 18th, 2021-14:58
Hello dear KM and friends ! I hope everyone is enjoying the weekend and this exciting and thought provoking theme. Taking the theme literally outside the lines … Outside the carbon lines .. Outside the “golden” lines … Outside the lines that Rolex make … ...

Love that Speedmaster shot!!
