The range is definitely less than a petrol or diesel car...
Apr 25, 2024,02:27 AM
Let's say you compared this to a BMW M3 or Mercedes AMG C63, it's definitely going to have less range. But, it will be less expensive to run, just as fast if not slightly faster, and you can charge it at home. And lest we forget, if we drive an AMG C63 flat out, the autonomy on a race track is probably not great neither. The biggest problem is obviously long highway driving - especially autobahn driving in Germany. So... Let's say hypothetically we want to drive from Berlin, to Dresden (to see Lange) and back to Berlin, I don't think the car can make it on one charge - around 400 km but much of it at very high and inefficient speeds - which would be an absolute pain!

New Tesla Model 3 Performance Announced
By: patrick_y : April 24th, 2024-03:56
Tesla's new Model 3 Performance model has just been announced. This replaces the previous Performance model which is quite an impressive car! Quick Facts: 510 horsepower 296 miles of range (US EPA Testing Standard). This is a 45 mile penalty compared to t...
My two cents comment:

I don’t see where this is environmental sustainable and why it should be sponsored by public money. It is just a sportscar for people that would like to appear environmental friendly. This car is just the summum of hypocrisis or non sense.
Ahh! Good point!
By: patrick_y : April 24th, 2024-05:26
But even more people would complain if the government picked and chose specific models for eligibility for tax credits right? So it's no easy solution. But I agree... Why should a high performance sedan like this get public money?
Can't argue with that...
By: patrick_y : May 15th, 2024-12:33
And it's just so strange that the government only subsidizes the most expensive and unnecessary "high performance version" and not the normal versions. It's almost counterintuitive.

I wonder what my AMG Mercedes would do on the autobahn?
By: patrick_y : April 25th, 2024-15:55
Probably 30 liters per 100 km? Would that be reasonable for a 5.4 liter gas guzzling engine? It wouldn't last very long at high speeds of 200+ kph, as the tank is only 80 liters! But at least I'd get 200+ kilometers of very high speed driving and if I nee...
On the autobahn, we find Teslas mainly in the slipstream of trucks ...

... at less than 90 km/h. The more impressed I was with a guy and his Model S who took part in a "sports" driving training of our national AA. They have a nice course for that not far from my place, some short straight parts, many curves. In the straight ...
Exactly!

It'll definitely seem that way!
Super car acceleration for $53k
By: Aquaracer1 : April 24th, 2024-14:32
Impressive. But that’s about all there is for me to see here. I’m too much of an ICE traditionalist. Which is probably why I haven’t test driven an EV yet . Add the other drawback like build quality , which I hear frequently, and I just can’t get behind t...
I considered myself a petrol-head.
By: patrick_y : April 25th, 2024-02:17
Then I test drove a Tesla - the acceleration, the response, the low center of gravity - it hooked me.
I was very against anything EV

I am a manual driving 911 guy and disdained Teslas until I rented one for a week while on vacation. I now think they are the best car for commuting or around the town use (not for long distance travel). They are fast, charge up quick to 80% at superchargi...
I concur!

I totally agree with you and I thank you for chiming in! And thank you for chiming in with an open mind! A lot of people whom are a little stubbornly puristic but overly critical about electric cars even without having driving them yet. Great for commutin...
Haha, that would be fun to see

I agree that EVs are not perfected for the track yet but they are great/better at other things. And yes, folks who trash EVs I think haven’t really spent significant time in them. They are also terrific cars but just do it differently than what they’re us...
I'm still hesitant to recommend EVs.
By: patrick_y : May 2nd, 2024-17:10
The Porsche Taycan drives amazingly. Truly a Porsche from a driving perspective - lack of sound otherwise. But, can I recommend one? So much of car ownership is outside of just how it drives, but the reliability, the insurability, the competence in a spec...
Very true
By: @wewannaporsche : May 3rd, 2024-09:32
I like the Taycan but they are behind Tesla in terms of development and design. Even then, the battery replacement costs after long term use is a problem. I wouldn’t replace all the cars in my family with an EV, but having one is a compelling argument.
Agreed! One in the fleet as a commuter is perfect.

Especially if you live in a place like California where you have insane fuel costs. We're paying $6.00 USD+ per gallon of premium fuel (all of my cars I've ever owned unfortunately required premium fuel). For our European friends, I'm still under 2 Euros ...

This sounds like the days when people had nostalgia for the clickity clack of horse hoofs on carriages, when Mr. Ford and Mercedes introduced the car. Love or hate, Tesla changed the world with a superior product, zero vibrations (that is why Rolls Royce ...
Milk floats?
By: patrick_y : May 14th, 2024-02:09
As a Tesla driver, I'm impressed with how good this thing is for so little money. As a Mercedes AMG driver, I adore the V8 engine, but whenever I see one of those Tesla milk floats, I'm humbled by the fact that those things are just as fast as a 500 hp Me...
